Description:
The Seattle School District No.1 (District) is requesting proposals to provide non-hazardous waste disposal and mixed waste recycling services across 105 schools, totaling 125 dumpster locations. (See Attachment 6: District Map 2024-2025.) Following the City of Seattle’s mandatory recycling and composting ordinances and Zero Waste goals, the District intends to model waste minimization and proper waste sorting for students and the community. The contractor shall use rear-hatch style dumpsters at schools with elevated loading docks to reduce on-the-job injuries for custodial staff. color coded dumpsters are needed to assist custodians and drivers to differentiate between garbage and recycling. Dumpsters must have color coded signs. (See Attachment 5-City of Seattle Signage.) The use of sensors inside dumpsters will allow better tracking of waste reduction efforts, assist in right-sizing dumpsters and service and provide more accurate data for emissions reporting.
